My lowlights

In the post about my PMU you can see my old haircolor, below I have black hair and on top of my head I had high- and lowlights. I wanted to go darker with lowlights, it gives you the effect that your hair is much thicker.

I had no help at home so I used the comb technique and it worked out just fine. The color I used was black
coffee, it's a cheap-ass brand but it works out amazing for me.

Instructions

Things You'll Need

  • Hair clips
  • Bowl
  • Color brush with Pin-tail
  • GlovesComb
  • Crème color (desired color)
  • Crème developer
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
    • 1
Divide your hair into four sections by creating one part that runs from the middle of the forehead to the middle of the nape area and one part that runs horizontally, ear to ear. Hold each section in place using hair clips.
    • 2
Mix equal parts of the crème color and developer in the mixing bowl. Blend with the color brush until the color is smooth and even throughout.
    • 3
Section off a 1,5 cm horizontal section of hair. Apply color to the hair along the roots, you can choose how much centimeters from the root (I applied  about 2 cm from the roots).
    • 4
Continue in an alternating pattern, moving from section to section, from the top of the head to the lower hairline.
    • 5
Process the hair for 20 minutes after the last section. Check the color of the first section and eyeballing the result. If you like the color, continue to the next step. If not then process for an additional five minutes.
    • 6

Then start combing it through the desired sections of your hair. Repeat this procedure throughout your hair.
  • 7

When you are done with the application of the hair lowlights, you must keep it in for 25 minutes (my total application time was 45min). Different hair color brands have a different time limit for the lowlights to leave on. So, make sure you read the directions carefully and leave on the color for the said time.

  • 8
    Rinse, shampoo and condition.

Note: Most of the hair color kits today include hair color conditioners. If you are lucky to have one in your kit, you must apply it to your hair and then rinse. It will soften your hair and add some glam shine!
